What We Believe

The following are the essentials of what we believe at Life.Church. Please review and let us know you understand and affirm these beliefs. An incomplete understanding of or disagreement with the following essential beliefs does not necessarily disqualify you from serving, but it may require a follow-up conversation. If you disagree with any of the following beliefs, please address each topic in the related comment field.

To learn more about the Scriptures that support these beliefs, please visit www.life.church/beliefs or www.leaders.life.church/our-beliefs.

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe.

He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are coequal and are one God.

Jesus is the Son of God.

He is coequal with the Father and Holy Spirit. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven and will return again someday to earth to reign as King.

The Holy Spirit lives in each Christian from salvation.

The Holy Spirit is coequal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer spiritual gifts when they are saved. As Christians we seek to live under His control daily.

The Bible is God's Word to us.

The Bible was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs about living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without error.

People are the supreme object of God's creation.

People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin." Sin separates us from God and causes many problems in our life.

Salvation is God's free gift to us, but we must accept it.

We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into their life by faith.

People will exist eternally with or without God.

People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is eternal life in hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life in Heaven. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.

Baptism is symbolic of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.

Once we have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, baptism is a way for us to publicly declare our new life in Christ. It is also a step of obedience based on God’s commands and allows us to follow the example of Jesus, who submitted Himself to baptism to "fulfill all righteousness."

Living & Modeling Our Beliefs

As a volunteer leader at Life.Church, you’ll be engaging in conversations about a wide range of topics. We want to make sure you are equipped to teach, lead, and live in alignment with the beliefs of Life.Church. We don’t want to put anyone in a position where they have to provide guidance on something they don’t agree with. With that in mind, please review and indicate whether or not you’re in agreement with the following beliefs.

Understand and affirm What We Believe at Life.Church.

How do we treat other people in our relationships?

We love them the same way that Jesus loves us (John 13:34-35, 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, 1 John 3:16-18

We build up and encourage those around us (Matthew 15:11, Ephesians 4:29, Titus 2:7-8)

We seek to live at peace with everyone and actively work toward reconciliation when conflict emerges (Matthew 5:43-45, Romans 12:10-18)

We believe we're better together, so we live with healthy accountability (Hebrews 10:23-25, James 5:16, 1 John 1:5-7

How do we pursue holiness?

We stay alert and sober minded by staying away from excessive alcohol and drug use (Ephesians 5:18, Galatians 5:19-21, 1 Peter 5:8).

If we have social media, we use it responsibly by ensuring our posts and comments honor God and others (Hebrews 13:18, Ephesians 4:29, Colossians 3:17

We honor ourselves and others by avoiding pornography and other graphic content that dehumanizes and objectifies people (Matthew 5:28, Genesis 1:27, Proverbs 4:23)

How do we live a generous life?

We look to the interests of others and share with those in need (Matthew 25:34-40, Acts 2:42-47, Philippians 4:12-13)

We practice stewardship by living within our means (Matthew 6:19-24, Hebrews 13:5, Philippians 4:12-13)

We honor God with our finances by pursuing the tithe (Malachi 3:10, Matthew 23:23, 2 Corinthians 9:6-9

How does our faith in Jesus shape our beliefs about sexuality

We believe God created human beings in His own image, male and female (Matthew 19:4-6, Genesis 1:27)

We believe marriage is a lifelong covenant before God between one man and one woman. (Matthew 19:4-6, Genesis 2:22-24

We reserve all sexual activity for the covenant of marriage (Romans 13:13, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, 1 Corinthians 6:18)

We avoid unnecessary sexual temptation by choosing not to live with our significant other before marriage (1 Corinthians 6:18, 1 Timothy 4:12

LifeKids Safety Non-Negotiables

  1. Two Adult Policy. There must be at LEAST two (2) adults (above 18 years old) in a room at all times. This ensures the safety of our kids and maintains accountability in the room.
  2. Check-In and Check-Out Policy. We must be sure all kids are properly checked in prior to entering a LifeKids room. This indicates to the family that we will take care of their children and make sure they are completely safe. In every situation, we will ensure every kid gets checked out properly by matching the parent’s security tag to the kid’s nametag. If there are any issues, notify a LifeKids staff member.
  3. Food and Drink Policy. We do not allow any food or drinks into our rooms by kids or leaders. Due to potential allergies, it is important to keep the vision of safety at the forefront of our mind and keep our classrooms as contained as possible.
  4. Restroom Policy. If a restroom is provided within the room, the restroom door must remain ajar or the top of the half door must remain open. If any child using the restroom requires direct assistance, the leader who provides direct assistance must be female. In any situation where assistance is needed, the second adult leader may be a male or female. If a restroom is not provided within the room, two adult LifeKids leaders must escort the child to the restroom. Again, if assistance is required the restroom door must remain ajar. When any child 2 years or older enters a restroom with a leader, another leader must also keep the child in sight. At no time should a Student Leader escort a child to the restroom or should any child be left unattended. Only female leaders are permitted to change diapers.
  5. Mandatory Reporting. Report suspected or actual abuse to Life.Church staff.
